Police stated they were alerted by a man who discovered a vehicle in Hanau covered with red-colored liquid

Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.

Officers state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.

The substance had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Police then discovered many other marked cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials report preliminary tests show the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.

"There is still no indication as to where it came from; authorities are presently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the incident," they stated.

Local authorities stated they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have requested to the community for tips.

An important political figure said the incident made him stunned and needed to be solved rapidly.

"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he stated on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine people by a gunman focusing on individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
