Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hardcourt

A revitalized Medvedev secured his initial title for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has had a torrid year, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the American major.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in specific - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-time mentor Cervara.

Now working with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents his initial trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court since March of 2023.

Victory also indicates the Russian has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one distinct events.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters together, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," said world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his last six championship matches, featuring in Halle in the past months.

The player's defensive strategy and frequent emotional displays on court had prompted commentators to question if his ability to play at the highest level was over.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, striving to approach the net and perform assertively, supported by an better serve.

He came back from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, taking four of the concluding five points to go ahead.

The pair traded breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first tour championship, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

Moutet saved four early-game opportunities in a tight deciding set before the Russian broke to 15 to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he earned the win with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to control a shot after a lengthy match.
